"The 3rd edition of JESS was an amazing experience. The topics of the lectures were well thought and organized and the speakers well chosen. The place was fantastic, at Valata Minuta Resort, with great views, wonderful food and a special attention to small details that made me feel like home. It was the perfect background for a memorable week, filled with knowledge, but also a lot of fun, culture and social interaction that transformed a diverse group into a true family."
"You are very lucky to be part of the Junior ESGAR Summer School. The course in Modica, Sicily was an extremely well-organized training for abdominal radiology, accompanied by an extraordinary cultural experience. The lectures were held by absolute experts, who, in addition to the basics, also provided important details to the certain topics. The seminars were divided into a theory section and case discussions in order to directly exercise the learned knowledge. The exchange with colleagues from all over Europe was very interesting and instructive. The breaks and recreation phases were spoiled with local tasting, exploring the surroundings and relaxing at the beach. Taking part in the JESS has motivated me to the highest degree for abdominal radiology, showing fun at work and a great experience. I can’t think of anything to improve it, I can only warmly recommend you to apply for the upcoming Junior Summer school."
"Every end is a new beginning, and at that time, it was the end of the 3rd Junior ESGAR Summer School, and a new beginning for me with new friends, great experience and unforgettable days. For five days in Modica, I had a great time with a nice company. The combination of comprehensive teaching and social events was wonderful. I would like to thank all my colleagues, ESGAR professors, and the Valata Minusa Country Resort staff who made these great days possible. Special thanks to Prof. Giuseppe Brancatelli and wish you all the best."
"In the summer of July 2017 I had the great opportunity to take part in the third Junior ESGAR Summer School in Modica, Italy. The course consisted of a five day programme filled with interesting lectures and nice social events. The course lectures were high quality and given by experts in the field. In the Netherlands, we can spend the last two years of our residency on a radiology sub specialty. Since I will be devoting my last two years to abdominal imaging, this course was an excellent preparation. Due to JESS I am planning to visit more courses organized by the ESGAR in the future. Furthermore, it was very nice to meet other young European radiology residents and to share this experience."
"The Junior ESGAR Summer School was an amazing and unforgettable experience for me. It gave me the opportunity to improve my knowledge of gastrointestinal and abdominal imaging attending lectures from the best experts in Europe and in the World, with the possibility to discuss "hot" topics face to face with them as well as a unique chance for making new friends from all over the world and create networks for future researches and clinical cooperations. In my opinion, the format of daily lectures and social evenings was the perfect combination that made it possible. All the lectures were focused on very useful subjects and all the social activities were excellent, creating a very friendly atmosphere. I encourage residents and fellows to take part in the next JESS - it could be the opportunity that changes your future."
"For me, the ESGAR Summer School was one of the most fulfilling experiences I’ve had, both professionally and personally. On the one hand, I got to hear talks by some of the best lecturers in the field, on the other – to meet a lot of young residents from all over the world. We shared experience, we shared stories. And I think it made all of our worlds a little bigger.
Living in a relatively small country and working in one of the leading university hospitals, I always knew that it would be too easy for me to compare my knowledge and my expertise to the one of other residents from my country. I wanted to be able to see and hear from the source, how residents from other countries work. It was incredibly useful for me to learn about the advantages and disadvantages of the systems in their departments and hospitals. I think I will be getting back to Bulgaria, bringing a lot of knowledge and fresh ideas on how to make myself, my work and even my workplace better. And I just can’t wait to share some of the interesting cases we saw with all of my colleagues!
I only wish that residents could go to the Summer School more than once and there were more amazing events like this one. I will recommend it to all my friends, so that next year one of them could experience this! Thanks a lot to everyone who made it possible, for all your hard work and all the hospitality!"
"The course program consisted of a large variety in very interesting topics, all presented by highly acclaimed experts in their field. Presentations were given on a large variety of pathological conditions and imaging modalities in various organs, followed by cases that were assessed in small groups. This led to interesting discussions and acted as a stimulating factor in the learning process. In the evening, there was a program aimed at increasing the knowledge of the Valencia area and its culture (e.g. diner at the beach and course on astronomy) but also provided the opportunity to get to know the other participants, which were from numerous different countries in and outside of Europe. Personally, I found it very valuable to not only discuss knowledge and cases with the other participants, but also learn about radiology training and research in other countries. In conclusion, this course has been a valuable attribution to my training as a resident and I will be recommending this course to my colleagues!"
"The JESS is an unique combination of a radiology workshop and a summer camp - that was exactly the thing I needed! During those five days I have learned a lot about abdominal radiology, therefore, I will be able to introduce new knowledge to my daily practice and ,thus, improve it.
I really liked the case sessions, where we discussed different cases (sometimes tricky) together with participants and professors. I have met many nice people from different countries, with whom I spent a lot of fun time, for example, playing a table football.
Last, but not least, I was amazed with the perfect organisation and kindness of the local organisers. I will be definitely recommending JESS to my colleagues, and I hope, ESGAR is planning a senior school."
"In my opinion, the first Junior ESGAR Summer School was a complete success!
The lectures were very interesting. I believe the general view on the several most important topics was the best for beginning and developing our journey in abdominal radiology. The depth of approach of the several topics was also adequate for the majority of residents’ level of knowledge.
The venue was a great choice also! The informal ambience was great, the leisure time in between the sessions and the social programme were perfect for relaxing and getting to know the other course attendants. We had a lot of fun!"
"ESGAR Junior Summer School has been an amazing experience. I found the way the courses were held really educational. The subject of the courses, the way the tutors were presenting them and the fact that we worked in groups with our own workstations, helped us understand and interact as much as possible. At the same time we had the chance to meet young colleagues from all over Europe and to enjoy ourselves in the best way. The informal character of the Summer School and the kind treatment and attention by the local organisers made us all feel like home. I feel really lucky for being a part of this first JESS. I wish ESGAR continues giving its young members this great opportunity. I also hope that Greece will be one of the following hosting countries."
