ESGAR: Rising Star Award

Rising Star Award

The Rising Star Award is a recognition award to acknowledge promising young abdominal radiology researchers. It can serve as a stepping stone to further develop their research career in abdominal radiology. Selected Rising Stars will receive their award on occasion of the ESGAR Annual Meeting.

The Rising Star status includes following benefits:

Free registration for the Annual Meeting 2027
Grant of EUR 1,000.00
Participation in the Award Ceremony during the Annual Meeting
Presentation of his/her research work during a lecture session at the Annual Meeting

We thank the members of the Parnassus Circle for generously supporting this ESGAR initiative. Grants are made available by private donations from former ESGAR Presidents and Founding Members.

The application for the Rising Star 2027 is now open! Apply until April 20, 2026.

Candidates for the Rising Star Award must:

Be ESGAR members in good standing for at least two years.
Be radiologists within 10 years after completion of training.
Demonstrate active involvement in ESGAR (by attending ESGAR annual meetings and/ or workshops either as delegate, active presenter, or faculty member).
Have an active research portfolio and at least 1 publication as first author in a journal that is ranked in Q1 of the Clarivate Ranking 2022.
Have their main residence and workplace in Europe.
Candidates at any career stage are eligible. The selection committee will consider each applicant’s career stage and trajectory to ensure the award provides meaningful benefit

Candidates may either self-nominate or be nominated by another ESGAR member.

Self-nomination:
Applicants must submit the following documents.

A summary curriculum vitae (use of this template is mandatory).
A short letter of motivation (max. 1 page), briefly explain the following:
1) why they should receive the award
2) what the award would mean for their career,
3) their future professional goals
A letter of support from a National Radiology Society Committee member or their institutional Head of Department.

Nomination by another member:
The nominator and nominee must jointly submit the following documents.

From the nominator:
o A short letter of motivation (max. 1 page) explaining why nominee deserves the award
From the nominee:
o A summary curriculum vitae (use of this template is mandatory).
o A short letter of motivation (max. 1 page), briefly explain the following:
1) what the award would mean for their career,
2) their future professional goals

Please combine all application documents into one single pdf and send it by E-Mail
(Reference: ESGAR Rising Star + applicant's name).

The recipient is selected by the ESGAR Executive Committee on recommendation of the Research Committee based on the curriculum vitae of the applicant (track record in research, grants and honours, and publications), motivation and indicators of developing scientific independence.

Rating:

CV (up to 15 points)

ESGAR involvement (up to 5 points)
Scientific work - publications, presentations, grants, awards etc. (up to 10 points)

Motivation (up to 10 points)
